A one-day collaborative ART project

THE THREAD |
WHAT IS THIS?Dancers and cinematographers met up on September 7th, 2013 to film something spontaneous together. Everyone entered the space not knowing what to expect (some friends, some complete strangers). Once the participants arrived, everyone introduced themselves, warmed up, had a contact improv jam, and then began working on choreographing a piece that is demonstrative of THE THREAD that holds artists together: the need to create. This process and the completed piece was documented by several cinematographers.
"It was an amazing feeling to be accepted into that space and to create together." - Christina Marushok, Participant In a world saturated with dance videos it is rare to come across one that captures the heart, emotion, and doubt that is inevitably present in every creative endeavor. THE THREAD was a particular moment in space and time in which shared artistic passion brought together both strangers and friends for the sole purpose of creating. How much of why people love the arts is actually lost in the formal, packaged, perfected presentation thereof? A lot, we think.
With this film, we are striving to capture not only the creative process, but also the power of shared artistic passion in breaking social barriers. |
DANCE | CAMERA | ACTIONMore than it is about showcasing the immense talent of every individual involved in this project, THE THREAD is about human connection through the arts. By the end of the session, deep interpersonal connections had been created through the creative process; the level of trust established in just a few hours was astonishing. The only thing everyone knew for sure about the other participants was that they were there to make something memorable, and that proved to be enough.
THE THREAD 2013 is a project organized by Ania Catherine and Emmeline Kim of RENEGADE CULTURE art collective.
RENEGADE CULTURE brings together artists of all mediums in collaboration to create original, interdisciplinary, and innovative works of art. |
